Mundoonen Top Ten Riesling
Mundoonen Gold Medal and Trophy winning 2002 Riesling was named as one of the
Top Ten Rieslings in Australia at the Hyatt National Riesling Challenge award
ceremony on Friday night. Mundoonen is one of the Canberra District's newest
small wineries and has made its mark in the company of established wine
industry leaders.
The wine had previously won a gold medal and trophy at the Canberra Regional
Wine Show in 2004 but the national Riesling award was very special. The
Mundoonen Riesling was the first Canberra wine to win a gold medal at the
National Riesling Challenge. It was also awarded the Chief Minister's Trophy
for the Best Canberra District Wine in show.
Winemaker Terry O'Donnell said, "It is a great honour for a small winemaker to
be named as a producer of a national Top Ten wine. I have no doubt that the
Canberra District will continue to grow and produce Rieslings of great quality
and the district will take its place as a producer of world class Rieslings".
